Music Program

Band Instruction ~ Mrs. Hyatt, Band Director

I am so excited to be teaching band here at Andros Karperos School. I was born and raised in Yuba City and was part of the music program in our school district from elementary through high school. I attended Yuba College and completed my bachelor's degree at CSU, Chico. Teaching is one of the most rewarding things in my life and I consider it a privilege to work with your students. Here at Andros Karperos we offer band to 4th through 8th grades. Our elementary students are given the option to take band in 4th and 5th grades. Fourth grade band starts with an introductory level instruction and 5th grade students are able to continue on in their musical studies. Each of these bands perform at two concerts per year. In our middle school, we offer band as an elective that meets every day. For 6th grade, we offer Intermediate Band for students who have some experience playing their instrument and for our 7th and 8th grade students, we offer Advanced Band for students with more advanced skills. These bands participate in several exciting events each year including performances at school concerts, parades, and competitions. I am looking forward to working with your students.

Strings Instruction ~ Samuel Magana, Violin/Orchestra Teacher

It is my genuine pleasure to be teaching Strings here at Andros Karperos School. I am a product of the Yuba-Sutter Area, having been born in Yuba City and lived in Marysville most of my life. I attended Yuba Community College, then transferred to CSU, Stanislaus to finish my bachelor's in Music Education. I believe that learning music in an ensemble, much like participating in athletics programs, develops not only one's own competency as a musician, but also their discipline, diligence, and a sense of accountability and responsibility as part of a team. Violinists start off as beginners in 4th grade learning the basics of violin technique (holding the instrument, proper bow grip, learning how to bow, etc.) and basic music literacy, which continues into 5th grade. As 6th graders, students can continue as violinists in Intermediate Orchestra, or they have the opportunity to switch to either viola, cello, or double bass. This continues into 7th and 8th grade, when they further explore music from orchestral repertoire, as well as having the opportunity to learn yet another instrument. Violin/Orchestra students get many opportunities to show off, including our Winter and Spring Concerts, as well as our Six Flags/ Music in the Parks trip in the spring for our middle schoolers!
