Where is my Wolfpack?

Hello AK families,
My name is Rocco Greco and I am the proud Principal of Andros Karperos. As a parent, I remember how large a role my daughters' elementary school played in our life. The importance of my child's elementary school in helping us to develop a good person was essential to our family. I know that we could not have done it alone, and I know they could not have done it without us. A child that is encouraged, loved and made to feel important will always perform better as a student, be happier as a human and develop confidences that stop many of the bad behaviors that can occur as our children get older. I want your student to be happy and healthy here at AK. I want you to feel heard and supported. I want our teachers to also feel supported in the work of ensuring every student is able to achieve at their optimal level.
We believe Families come first in student success and there are some basic things that you can do as a parent to assure that your child is happy, confident, and successful in school. If done from an early age the odds of academic success are magnified. While we expect to help students in their journey to becoming lifelong learners we need your support to assure they are well rested, well fed and well behaved so that our amazing instructors' can help every child to reach their full potential. Below are a list of things that we believe are important to helping students succeed. Together we all grow.
- Communicate with the school and attend events for your child.
- Limit or eliminate time on non-educational technology for your child.
- Between the hours spent at work and school, the time we get with our children is very short. Make sure that the relationships and the time you spend together is memorable. Eliminate the time you spend on a device during the hours available to be with your child.
- Take time everyday to check for school communications and look through their planner to assure that your homework time is well spent.
- TK-5th grade parents, please check their agenda daily and spend at least 30 minutes with them during their homework time on academics.
- 6th-8th grade parents, please check their agenda daily and their AERIES portal every Weekend. Grades will be updated and emailed out on Fridays. If your child is not achieving at the level you want, work with them as long as needed. If you need support, please reach out.
- Have a set time and location in your routine for your child to complete their homework. Make sure their phone is not with them during this time.
- If they do not have homework, first verify that is accurate, then please take 30 minutes to read or talk with them. At first they may seem like they do not like this time, they will grow to value and appreciate it.
- From time to time the school, a school staff member or classroom may frustrate you, or you may feel like we could be doing things better. Please come and talk to us as we can always improve. Please do not talk about the school in a negative light to your child as it increases difficulties you will face in school and behavior later. Please come and talk to us and we will do our best to improve, or explain why something is the way it is. But maintaining the relationships between you and us is one of the most important things in helping your child achieve at the level you know they can.
Our mission at Andros Karperos School is to promote and provide a consistently safe, caring, cooperative, and academic environment in which students, parents, staff, and community work in a partnership.
