AKS School Counselors will be working in a virtual setting to provide a school counseling program through the use of technology and distance (virtual/online/e-learning) counseling with the same standards and adherence to ethics as school counselors working in traditional school settings.
AKS School Counselors will work collaboratively with all stakeholders to ensure equity, access and success of all students via our virtual school counseling program.
Our AKS Counselors will use school/district online platforms or communications methods following the communication plan to provide distance counseling. Recognize and mitigate the limitations of school counselor confidentiality in a virtual setting, which may include unintended viewers or recipients. Emphasize these limits in communications with students and families and when establishing boundaries of virtual counseling.
Our AKS Counselors will use email and any available school/district online platforms and resources to provide consultation and collaboration with families, teachers, administrators and other school staff. Educate the school community on how to best access the school counselor via the various platforms
Because our AKS school counselors do not provide ongoing therapy, we will review and update the list of available outside mental health services, social/emotional and physical well-being support and share with our parents and families.
Remember, we are here for you! We will continue to support you throughout our distance learning adventure. Please reach out to us for questions or concerns. Allow a return time for up to 24 hours for contact during weekdays and on weekends expect us to get back to you on the closest school day.
